Water Filtration Systems
dallas water is hard. let's fix that.

Dallas-Fort Worth water averages 7–10 grains per gallon — moderately to very hard. That's the white film on your shower glass, the scale ring in your kettle, the dishwasher that died at year 6, and the rough laundry. A filtration system fixes most of it.

Three systems, three problems they solve.

Not every home needs every system. We test your water on the visit and recommend only what'll actually make a difference.

SOFTENER

For: hard water minerals

Removes calcium and magnesium. Stops scale. Doubles the life of water heaters, dishwashers, and washing machines.

WHOLE-HOME FILTER

For: chlorine, sediment, taste

Carbon-based filtration on the main line. Removes chlorine, chloramines, sediment, and most taste/odor issues at every fixture in the house.

RO DRINKING

For: clean drinking water

Reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink. Removes lead, fluoride, nitrates, PFAS, and total dissolved solids.

COMBO

For: most DFW homes

Softener + carbon filter on the main line, plus RO at the kitchen. The right setup for most DFW homes.

What's actually in DFW tap water?

Dallas Water Utilities' published reports show our tap water is safe by federal standards — but "safe" and "good" aren't the same thing. We routinely measure:

  • Total hardness: 7–10 grains per gallon (moderate to hard) — leaves scale on every fixture
  • Chlorine/chloramine: 2.5–4 mg/L (legal, but you can taste it) — kills carbon filters faster than chlorine alone
  • Total dissolved solids (TDS): 250–400 ppm — affects taste; bottled water is typically <50
  • Lead: Mostly safe at the source, but pre-1986 homes can have lead solder in interior plumbing — RO at the tap is cheap insurance
Free water test
We'll test your water on the install consult — hardness, TDS, chlorine, and pH — and show you exactly what's in it before quoting anything.

Sizing the system right matters more than the brand.

An undersized softener will burn through resin in 4 years instead of 12. An oversized one wastes salt and water on every regen. We size based on:

  1. Number of people in the home (water use per day)
  2. Measured grains of hardness at your address
  3. Peak flow demand — multiple bathrooms running simultaneously
  4. Salt-handling capacity — how often you want to refill the brine tank

For most 4-person DFW households, that's a 48,000-grain unit with 1" plumbing. For larger families or estate homes, 64,000+ with 1.25".

Frequently asked

How much does whole-home filtration cost in DFW?
It depends on which system fits your water and your home — a standalone softener is the entry point, a whole-home carbon + softener combo is the most popular, and adding a reverse-osmosis drinking system is a modest add-on. We test your water first, then give you a flat written quote with no pressure.
Do I need a softener if I have a whole-home filter?
Yes — most carbon-based whole-home filters don't remove hardness minerals. They handle chlorine, taste, sediment, and some VOCs, but calcium and magnesium pass right through. They're complementary systems, not alternatives.
How often does a softener need maintenance?
Salt refill every 4–8 weeks depending on use (we'll set you up with auto-delivery if you want). Resin replacement every 10–15 years. Manual maintenance: practically none if it's sized right.
Will softened water harm my plants or my health?
Standard ion-exchange softeners add a small amount of sodium to the water. For most people, the amount is negligible (a glass of softened water has less sodium than a slice of bread). For irrigation or anyone on a strict low-sodium diet, we install a bypass to keep the outdoor spigot and a kitchen tap on hard water — or we recommend a salt-free conditioner.
What's the difference between a softener and a salt-free 'conditioner'?
A true softener removes calcium and magnesium via ion exchange. A salt-free conditioner doesn't remove anything — it changes the crystal structure so it doesn't stick to surfaces as much. Conditioners work decently for moderately hard water if you don't want to deal with salt; softeners work definitively for very hard water. We'll tell you which makes sense for your house.
